Jordans has been associated with the Quaker movement for over 350 years. Built in1688, when Quakers were first allowed to worship together openly, Friends who have worshipped here include William Penn, Isaac and Mary Penington, and Thomas Ellwood – all of whom are buried in the grounds. This is still a place of active, regular Quaker worship, but also a place of pilgrimage for Quakers worldwide – many from the USA visiting the grave of William Penn.

 

Surrounded by its Seventeenth-century and contemporary burial grounds, Jordans is an ideal place for quiet reflection, group discussion, and collective discernment. With our rooms of different sizes, our historical Quaker associations, and easy access to the M40, Jordans offers a perfect setting for Meeting away-days, and for Quaker trustees and committees to meet. Quaker groups have hired our rooms over weekends, staying at the adjacent Youth Hostel or in modestly-priced accommodation nearby.

 

The ground-floor 1688 Room and Penn Room are fully wheelchair accessible, with a lift between levels and toilets on the ground floor. There is a hearing loop system in both rooms. Other rooms for hire are on the first-floor.

 

There is on-site parking for up to 22 vehicles – and more spaces a short walk away.

 

Our letting rates to Quaker groups are 50% of the commercial rate.
